Steam Crow Release Party for After Halloween

What do goblins, witches and beasties do after Halloween? Why they get jobs of course!

Come check out the third book release from Steam Crow Press, After Halloween: An Alphabet Book at Red Hot Robot this Friday.

I’ve been a fan of Daniel Davis’ work since I first met him at Refresh Phoenix. When we first met, he had Caught Creatures under one arm and a Klawberry plushie  in the other hand. He’s an amazingly dedicated guy with a TON of talent, not to mention spooky things in his head! So if you love things that go bump in the night, come join us in releasing this spooky new book into the world, while supporting an amazing Phoenix artist.

Where: Red Hot Robot
14 W. Camelback Rd.
Phoenix, AZ
NW corner of Camelback and Central

When: Friday, November 16th 7 pm

National Blog Posting Month

November, the month of brisk winds, first frosts, pumpkin pie, giving thanks, and now… national blog posting month. That’s right folks, for the month of November I will be posting every day.

While there have been some discussions on how blog posting frequency doesn’t matter, I believe that I truly do have something interesting and even possibly helpful to share with the world every day. If I didn’t feel that way, frankly my life would be pointless.

So, to celebrate this new goal, I’ve created a new blog template for EVofC and I have also purchased aprilholle.com in hopes to perhaps switch over to that as my new site, someday. I also plan on building out my about section to feature my 43 things list, last.fm music selection, digg.com favorites and stories, and flickr photos. I’ve decided instead of updating my about page all the time, it can automatically update for me as I live my life, making it that much easy for you to keep track of me. Kinda scary huh? So keep checking back for that.

I’m also tossing around the idea to maybe create a wordpress theme section and start creating themes for the masses. Perhaps also expanding out to a creative section where I can add tid bits like new wallpapers, photoshop brushes, and creative type links that I use on a regular basis for others to be inspired by.

Anyhow, November’s looking to be a pretty exciting month, and remember to check back EVERY SINGLE DAY for that new bloggy bit by yours truly. If you think you’d like to hear about any topic in particular, feel free to comment and I’ll be sure to look into it. 🙂 I’m sure by the end of the month I might need some coaxing. hehe

Internet Stars are Viral Video

If you spend any time at all watching viral videos online or are into viral marketing, you NEED to watch this video!

The team over at Cakke has mashed together some of the greatest viral moments (online and off) into one amazingly funny video. It’s really interesting to note just how many of them you have personally seen. Sometimes we don’t even know we’re participating in a viral activity, but this video really drives it home how many times we’re touched by this marketing magic.

In fact, I’m virally promoting this video right now… weird huh?

Layer Tennis: Grats to Jason Santa Maria!

Game, set, match! Every Friday Coudal Partners, hosts a live weekly match of layer tennis.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with layer tennis, it’s a design game where two elite designers are pitted against each other in a design-off. Each designer has an allotted amount of time to return his serve, in Coudal’s matches it’s 15 minutes. They are given a topic by a referee, and must keep elements of the last serve within their design. At the end of 10 serves a winner is declared by a forum of spectators.

This week’s topic was of course Halloween! The opponents, Jason Santa Maria and Brian Taylor. The competition was fierce, the topic one both opponents know and love. The match was narrated by freelance writer Matthew Baldwin, who described the blow by blow action in gripping detail. By the end of the match we had been horrified by the best, with images of blood, flies, clowns and blood-sucking zombambis. Declaring a winner was difficult for the onlookers, but finally Jason was declared the ultimate layer slasher.

For photos of the gore and more information on the players and narrator check out the full match.

Pink for October

It’s that time again! October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and to spark awareness around the world wide web PinkforOctober.org has asked web site owners to go pink for the month of October.

Last year, I grabbed a pink wordpress theme and called it a month. This year, I’ve gone ahead and created a pink theme in honor of my grandmother and aunt who have had to bare the burden of cancer. My aunt, Diane, and grandmother, Zella, are survivors. Tragically I have lost Diane to a second wave of cancer after she had beaten the disease. My grandmother is still doing well with no signs of remission.

My thoughts go out to all those who are fighting cancer and those survivors out there who have beaten this tragic disease. My heart goes out to you and your families and friends, that you will all stay strong through the fight and come out in the end. I financially support cancer research and cure development, and I do all that I can to create awareness in my community regarding this disease.

Every year, every dollar, every effort of cancer awareness brings us that much closer to finding a cure. Won’t you help?

Wait Less – Sprint Style

I have been seeing the WaitLess Sprint commercials on tv lately, I figured it was just another bad commercial gimmick like the Alltel’s commercials Man Cave. But honestly, the way Sprint has married their TV commercials with the web is genius! Waitless.org is all about spending less time doing the boring things in life, to spend MORE time doing what you want to do. The videos are hilarious and they’re a great sample of what viral media should be. Check it out and have a laugh at all the awesome ways you too can save time and wait less!

Favorite Presidential Logo

Be design democratic! Check out LogoVoting.com to vote for your favorite 2008 Presidential Candidate logo.

It’s interesting the number of different symbols and typography that are used to express a personal touch to the same type of communication. Also check out the variety and combinations of red, white, blue, stars, and American flags.

I would tell you who I voted for, but that’s against the rules. 😉

What is this?

This little blog happens to be the personal ramblings of one April Holle - I'm female, outspoken, webbie, a community evangelist, and Principal of Made Better Studio. Check out the about section for more info.
